Using resources in proximity to its two campuses, the program prepares students to address design of the public realm in both building and landscape. It utilizes two major metropolitan areas; Union, NJ, in the New York tristate area; and Wenzhou, China, in the Wenzhou region. These diverse landscapes are used to engage students in enhancing public spaces in dynamic, changing environments. They act as resources to their constituents – academic, professional, and public – through the promulgation of design at the highest levels.
Studio projects, building technology examples, and analysis of the regions’ developments in terms of ecology, sociology, and history as well as built form are beneficial at multiple levels due to their accessibility. It grounds the program with local constituents, provides engagement with real-world contexts for making architecture, and elevates the public identity of the program.
